The plans for the Peugeot Record du Monde

I had some time to think about what I like to do with the pile of part in the garage. And seeing that the bike is a rather non special, and perhaps even common model, I'm not going to restore it. It will not be worth the time and money and I doubt that I would enjoy riding it very much. I'm also not going to make it into a fixed gear bike (a.k.a. Fixie. Hate that word almost as much as selfie). Fixie's are for selfie shooting hipsters that I like to keep away from as much as possible. They are just too weird for my taste :)

So here's what I'm planning:

  • I will strip the paint from the frame and have it electrically galvanized. (either gold or silver colored) If it doesn't look nice I'll paint the frame orange. I like orange and it's the national color.
  • I will build a rear wheel using a Sram automatix 2 speed hub with a coaster brake. This will be a bit of a challenge since I never build a wheel before.
  • I might install a front brake but for now I'm planning to build a bike without any cabling. A coaster brake should be enough since were I live the steepest climb is the local fly over.
  • I will fit the biggest tire possible for smooth and comfortable ride.
  • I will definitely install a different handlebar.
  • I will not spend more than 100 euro on this project! This doesn't include tools I might purchase to build the rear wheel. Half of the budget has already gone into the Sram hub.
Naturally I reserve the right to change every thing without any notice what so ever.

Here's and example of something I like.

Perhaps a bit too much hipster with the muted colors and the whitewall tires. But please do check out the Bertelli website they have some nice looking bikes over there. No logos, just the way I like it. Why should we want to drive around advertising bicycle parts for free? And don't get me started about those idiots in full team colors. (I wear black till they make something darker)

To be continued.
