Tearing down the vintage Peugeot Record du Monde

Unfortunately the tear-down of the bike wasn't such a strait forward job as I had hoped. The cotter pins that secure the crank arms refused to come out, and in the end I needed to drill through them in order to get them out. Unfortunately one crank arm got damaged in the process and I'm not sure if it can be reused. The bottom bracket also got quit a beating so replacing the bearings will probably be a good idea. (if it is still usable at all)

This is what was left of the drive side cotter pin.

This is a bit of a setback since I might not be able to restore the bike to it's original specs. But, then again I have been playing with other ideas. Single-speed, internal geared hub, paint jobs are all possibilities once originality is no longer an issue. (No fixie, I'm no god-damn hipster! :) )

The rest of the tear-down was rather uneventful. You'll end up with a frame set, wheel set and a small pile of parts. Here are the photo's. Nothing more to say.

Peugeot Record du Monde parts

Peugeot Record du Monde Wheels. (Atom hubs with steel Regida rims)

Peugeot Record du Monde frameset

Now what should I do with this pile of parts.. Decisions decisions......

Continue with the plans
